Suehiro Maruo’s horror manga, ” Shojo Tsubaki,” has been quite infamous for its grotesque and gory scenes. Now, the manga has inspired a cafe in Shibuya to form a special collaboration menu, which will be served for a limited time, from 24 – 31 May 2016.

The menu can be found at  café “holy” in the Daikanyamachou area of Shibuya, and will be serving the menu as a tie-in with the live-action film adaptation of the manga, which stars fashion model Risa Nakamura in her film acting debut as the protagonist Midori.

The cafe is serving a few menu items which are definitely not for the faint of heart, or ones with a weak stomach.

Muchisute’s Maggot Float

That certainly looks grotesque, and I really wonder what it tastes like… but I would probably not go anywhere near that Maggot Float.

Also starring Shunsuke Kazama, Misaki Morino, rock band SuG frontman Takeru, Daichi Saeki, Motoki Fukami, and Akihiro Nakatani, the film is set to premiere on 21 May 2016. The manga it is based on is considered a classic by horror fans, not only in Japan, but also in the west, as it was released as “Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show” in the United States. It was also adapted into an anime film in 1992, and described as a “erotic grotesque” story. It centers around a girl named Midori, who becomes an orphan after her mother dies due to sickness, and is then sold to a travelling freak show, where the members proceed to physically and sexually torment her. The manga’s title refers to a recurring stock girl character in Showa-erakamishibai performances.
