It’s already a few months since Nintendo released their latest console, the Switch. While sales figures remain solid outside of Japan, Nintendo’s home country’s sales doesn’t seem to see a slow down any time soon. Even if it’s been months already, people are STILL lining up to get their hands on one. And the long lines are so ridiculous that most stores to do lotteries because of their limited stocks.
This rings true for one of Japan’s most famous electronics shops, Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. There, the store only has 250 units of the Switch console. And with massively long lines forming outside, the Akihabara landmark’s staff decided to do a lottery to determine which 250 customers get to have one.
With over 3,000 people lining up to get one, and only 250 consoles available, who can blame them? Some people who lined up, as well as a few passers-by, even posted about the ridiculously-long lines on twitter.

ヨドバシ秋葉原へ来たけど、スイッチの抽選と思われる長蛇の列ができてた。8:27地点で2600番くらいだったから、総数の推定では、5000番は余裕で行き、最大で10000番超える可能性がある。これは梅田超え確実で、とてつもなく無理www#任天堂スイッチ pic.twitter.com/orGWlQYi0I

And it’s not just Yodobashi Camera in Tokyo, but the one in Osaka as well. However, they only had 200 consoles, with approximately 2,100 people lining up to get them.

Those who lined up are even calling these lotteries to get the chance to buy a Switch as “Hell”. No wonder, huh?
