After the critical success of its animated film, Fumiyo Kouno’s In This Corner of the World manga is also getting a live-action TV drama. The good news was announced in Weekly Manga Action magazine, and the live-action adaptation will be happening sometime this summer.

Mangaka Fumiyo Kouno herself stated that she’s looking forward to see how parts of the manga would be portrayed in live-action. Unfortunately, the magazine didn’t reveal any further details about the live-action adaptation itself. However, it did state that they will be announcing more about it within Manga Action’s Pages soon.

Set in Kure, Hiroshima during the waning period of World War II, the manga takes a look at the people affected by the war. It follows Suzu Urano, a young lady whose life changes after the Allies bomb her town. The inspirational manga, as well as the film, tell an inspiring tale despite the hardships of war.

The manga itself garnered plenty of awards and critical praise. It wrapped up in 2009 and also received three compiled volumes. As for its anime adaptation, it also won plenty of animation awards, as well as much love from the critics. This means that this live-action adaptation really has a lot to live up to, and it’s certainly going to be tough to live up to the magic of the original.
