Halloween has become a big thing in Japan, with all sorts of people pulling out all the stops for their costumes. One of the things which rose because of Halloween’s popularity in Japan is the “Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest 2018” event, which they hold at the East Ikebukuro Central Park every year. For this year, several notable politicians attended the event, and yes, they also cosplayed. Perhaps the biggest name to attend is Tokyo Governor  Yuriko Koike, who cosplayed as Maetel from Galaxy Express 999.

She came with Toshima Mayor Yukio Takano, who cosplayed as Gintoki Sakata from Gintama. In her speech, she talked about the merits of cosplay, and also hyped up some major events coming to Tokyo. Of course, these include the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This won’t be the first time Koike appeared at the event though. However, this is her fist appearance there after a 2-year hiatus. She previously dressed as the title characters for Sally the Witch and Osamu Tezuka’s Princess Knight.
