Leiji Matsumoto is one of the biggest and most legendary names in anime and manga. Not only did he create Space Battleship Yamato, but he also created Galaxy Express 999 and Captain Harlock. And now, the legendary animator and mangaka has worked with studio DLE to create a Flash anime short which centers on a classical Japanese youkai known as a Yuki-onna (Snow Woman). DLE has even released the video on YouTube:

Japanese artist, FROGMAN (Eagle Talon), directed the short with Leiji Matsumoto’s supervision. The artist even lent his voice to the anime short, together with Chafurin and and novelist Hirokatsu Kihara. All three of them are tourism ambassadors for the city of Matsue. The video also pays huge homage to Matsumoto’s classic art style, which has worldwide acclaim. And yes, you’ve definitely seen that style in a Daft Punk video somewhere…

The animated short is part of the “Kaidan no Furusato Matsue” (Matsue: The Hometown of Ghost Stories) 5th Anniversary campaign. The campaign promotes promotes Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture as the home of celebrated folklorist, Lafcadio Hearn. The folklorist wrote a series of Japanese folklore stories under the pen name Koizumi Yakumo.
