The story of Space Battleship Yamato will continue with Space Battleship Yamato 2205. And during a recent Space Battleship Yamato 2202 concert event, series scriptwriter Harutoshi Fukui announced that the anime will premiere “Next Winter”.

During the announcement, he told the audience that the project will feature a “short, decisive battle”. He also announced that the Space Battleship Yamato 2202 Compilation project will feature new content. Fukui also revealed that its title is Uchū Senkan Yamato to Iu Jidai Seireki 2202-nen no Sentaku (The Era of Space Battleship Yamato: Choice of 2202).

The title suggests that much like 2202’s setting is three years after the events of the 2199 series, 2205 will be set yet another three years after. Shoji Nishizaki, the son of Space Battleship Yamato co-creator Yoshinobu Nishizaki, is returning as executive producer, while Harutoshi Fukui is also coming back to supervise the scripts.

No format has been announced so far, so this could be a TV anime, film series, OVA, or ONA. However, the official website suggested there might be a theatrical screenings. As for whether it will be a one-off anime or a series, the website hasn’t elaborated on that one yet.
