Yumi Hotta and Takeshi Obata’s “Hikaru no Go” will be adapted into a live-action TV series in China titled “Qui Hun” (「棋魂」, literally “Chess”). The series will start streaming on iQiyi starting tomorrow 27th October 2020. It was originally slated for a Summer 2019 release after the adaptation was announced in Spring 2018.

Hikaru no Go was written by Yumi Hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, with the portrayal of go games supervised by professional player Yukari Umezawa. It tells the story of a young boy named Hikaru Shindo, who unwittingly summons the spirit of Fujiwara no Sai, an ancient prodigy in the game of Go. Together they go on a journey of learning, and eventually, Hikaru learns to love the game and become a professional player.

The popularity of “Hikaru no Go” made a positive impact on the ancient Japanese sport and attracted a new generation of players not just in Japan but all over the world.
