A new live-action adaptation of “Drops of God” by writers Yuko and Shin Kibayashi and artist Shu Okimoto has been announced — starring popular Japanese actor Tomohisa Yamashita. “Drops of God” is scheduled to be broadcast and distributed worldwide in 2022, as a multilingual project between American companies Legendary Television and Dynamic Television, French company France Television, and Hulu Japan. The show will also be exclusively distributed on Hulu.

“Drops of God” is a wine manga serialized in Morning from 2004 to 2014. A total of 44 volumes have been published, and the total circulation of the series has exceeded 15 million copies. In 2009, it was made into a TV drama starring Kazuya Kamenashi.

“Drops of God” follows the story of Shizuku Kanzaki, a junior employee in a Japanese beverage company focusing on selling beers. He receives news that his estranged father — a renowned wine critic and collector, has died, leaving a highly valuable wine collection behind. Shizuku stands to inherit the collection if he is able to identify the “Twelve Apostles” wines and the thirteen “Drops of God” wines. However, matters are complicated by renowned young wine critic Issei Tomine, his father’s protege and adopted son.
