Upon the release of Jujutsu Kaisen the anime in Late September 2020, it had gained a large fanbase with lots of interesting characters, fanart, memes and all those hilarious tik-toks of people turning people and objects into Gojo Satoru, or using the “MY BESTO FRIENDO” sound originating from the fight between Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo. It was a great anime to binge on during the pandemic.

After the final episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 aired on March 27 2021, viewers were promised the release of a Jujutsu Kaisen Movie. This year, fans are in for a treat, as the promised movie, “Jujutsu Kaisen: Zero” gets released in cinemas on March 10 in Singapore. Here are a few reasons why followers and non-followers of the Jujutsu Kaisen series alike, should catch the movie.

If you are a huge fan of the series, you may want to check out these awesome goodies from the fans’ screening too!

1) Anime Easter Eggs

When the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc aired in Jujutsu Kaisen the anime, the second year students briefly mentioned a certain student called “Yuta” that brought overwhelming victory to Tokyo Jujutsu High in their student exchange last year.

The Jujutsu Kaisen: Zero movie reveals this “Yuta” character as its main protagonist – Yuta Okkotsu, a high school student traumatised by a strong curse in the form of his childhood friend that wouldn’t leave him alone. It focuses on the start of his journey into Tokyo Jujutsu High

Although the story revolves around him, fans would be able to spot many familiar characters they have met from the anime, which includes the Tokyo Jujutsu High second years as first year students, and many more.

2) Characters with quirks

In addition to the plot, the movie was filled with humour from a variety of different interesting characters and their quirks. Different combinations of characters interacting with each other resulted in many hilarious, and somewhat relatable moments throughout the movie.

For the fans who feel like they have forgotten the huge database of characters introduced last year in the anime, character introductions were weaved into the movie’s premise in a smart way for first time watchers to understand. It also serves as a great recap for anime fans.

3) And of course, Gojo Satoru!

Speaking of quirky characters, another reason why Jujutsu Kaisen gained popularity among the anime community, and casual fans alike, was the appearance of this fine lad, Gojo Satoru. He’s a free spirited, white haired, blindfolded teacher of Jujutsu High who just happens to be one of the strongest special grade sorcerers.

Gojo Satoru fans will be able to witness many scenes of him and his sparkling blue eyes, as well as exclusive sneak peaks of Gojo Satoru’s past as a young college student in Jujutsu High.

4) High Quality Production

Fight scenes are staples in every action anime series, and what is Jujutsu Kaisen without some high quality fight choreographies, together with special visual effects from the powers of the spiritual realm. MAPPA has put a lot of care into each frame, the movements of characters clashing with creatures look incredibly smooth and fluid.

With a huge amount of high quality action scenes, the movie would have been in danger of progressing really quickly, or dragging out fights for too long. However, the movie’s pace was fast but easy enough to understand what’s happening. Different time skips were explained and flashbacks were placed to explain and progress the story further.

Music is something that filmmakers have used to add certain emotions to certain scenes of the movies they make. MAPPA decided to do that, and more, with the use of music around the introduction to showcase Yuta’s growth. How the lyrics matched his actions was an example of showing and telling. King Gnu’s melancholic music was also used in the movie’s theme song – Ichizu, which perfectly captures the essence of what Jujutsu Kaisen is about

Overall, it was a movie that was a beautiful work of art, and a thrilling roller coaster ride at the same time. And I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
