Making her very first appearance in Singapore and AFA is veteran seiyuu/singer Yui Horie!

Famous for her roles as Naru Narusegawa in Love Hina, Tohru Honda in Fruits Basket and in games such as Chie Satonaka in Persona 4 and Hitomi in the Dead or Alive series, this multi talented seiyuu/singer will be gracing us with her presence at Anime Festival Asia 2014’s I Love Anisong.

Who is Yui Horie?

Having graduated from the seiyuu school Nihon Narration, one of her first roles was as Brittany(Chihiro) in the Pokémon TV series. Her career took off in 2000 when she won the role of Naru Narusegawa in Love Hina and went on to become a popular seiyuu. In 2001, she formed a unit called Yamato Nadeshiko with another popular seiyuu Tamura Yukari.

As a seiyuu, she usually voices the Genki Girl archetype, but lately she have stepped back to take on substantially deeper voiced character as opposed to being the heroine. As a singer, she collaborated with many other upcoming seiyuus and/or artists throughout her career such as Aice5 and Kurobara Hozonkai.

She enjoys shoulder massaging, reading and eating during her free time and L’arc~en~Ciel and GLAY are some of her favorite bands. She is affectionately called Hocchan by her fans.

So what has she sang in the past?

To start things off, we have The World’s End, the second opening theme for the anime Golden Time that aired late last year where she voices character Koko Kaga. Character aisde, the song really fits the Golden Time’s second arc very well! The song is very upbeat although the lyrics seem to be otherwise!

The second song is the list is one of her more popular songs from the hit anime Toradora! It is the second opening song titled Silky Heart. Like The World End, I really feel that Silky Heart fits well with Toradora! in general. Its upbeat pace and rhythm really got me hooked back in the day.

Lastly is the ending song for the short anime Miss Monochrome, titled Poker Face. Miss Monochrome is an original character that was created and voiced by Yui Horie who is an android aspiring to become an idol. I am not a huge fan of synthesized music but this is one of the few which I enjoy. The PV is really nice as well!

What makes Yui Horie so awesome on stage?

What I really enjoy during her stage performances is her really cute costumes! Even though she recently turned 38, she still looks like she’s somewhere in her 20s on and off the stage! While her style is not KPP’s level of madness, it has a different kind of charming cuteness that accentuates her youth.

She also has a wide variety of songs to listen to from many different anime such as Toradora!, Love Hina, Dog Days as well as the stuff she sings as Miss Monochrome, so she has a variety of song types to hear! I do also like her stage interactions between songs and during songs as well like the one in Yui Horie wo Meguru Bouken IV: Pirates of Yui 2013 as if you’re being brought on a adventure through the entire concert.

How I wished I was there at the concert!

I hope you are ready for her this December! I am sure many people are really excited to see Yui Horie in person in Singapore this year!

Yui Horie will be performing along with Angela, Eri Kitamura and DJ Kazu on Friday’s I Love Anisong taking place on 05 Dec 2014.  Perhaps we will see her perform with Kitamura Eri for Toradora’s second ending Orange on stage? Who knows!
