Studio Ghibli films have touched people not only in japan, but all around the world. These people touched by Ghibli films include Brazilian freelance illustrator Rodrigo ICO, who gave an interesting twist to some unforgettable Ghibli scenes.

My Neighbor Totoro

In a series of illustrations he calls “Paint Over”, the illustrator gives a more realistic approach to several Ghibli movie scenes. Using different tones and some shading, he manages to make several scenes look a bit more realistic. Here are a few more of them:

Ponyo

Spirited Away

Kiki’s Delivery Service

Princess Mononoke

Aside from the Ghibli classics, Ico also gave One Piece’s Chopper that “Paint Over” treatment.

The artist has received much praise for his works, and you can check out more of them through his online gallery.
