Every anime fan has their own “waifu” or “husbando,” but you don’t often hear that they come from Ghibli films. This may be because usually, people tend to choose these “waifus and husbandos” from more commonly-released TV anime. Now, Japanese survey site VenusTap finally asked Japanese women about their favorite male Ghibli characters. In their survey, they asked which male Ghibli character do they want to date the most. Here are the Top 5:

5 – Tombo (Kiki’s Delivery Service)

5 – Asbel (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind)

4 – Ashitaka (Princess Mononoke)

3 – Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle)

2 – Haku (Spirited Away)

1 – Jiro Horikoshi (The Wind Rises)

It seems that many like Jiro’s brains, as many of the voters praised him for his intelligence. That, mixed with his own dorky nature, was enough to propel him to the #1 spot. There were also some fans who praised his voice. Just remember that the “seiyuu” who portrayed him isn’t really a seiyuu, but a director named Hideaki Anno. You know, the guy behind Evangelion and Shin Godzilla?
