Looks like Japan is making its own version of “We Are the World” as an all-star group of Anisong artistes come together for a special song celebrating 100 years of Japanese animation. Titled Tsubasa wo Motsu Mono ~Not an angel Just a dreamer~, it will feature a total of 23 Anisong acts, and this also includes a few notable veterans and icons. And the song doesn’t just involve Anisong singers, but a few seiyuu and seiyuu units as well.

The project will involve the following acts:

  • Azumi Inoue
  • Wake Up, Girls!
  • Maaya Uchida
  • Akira Kushida

Now that’s what you call an all-star line-up! They will be releasing the CD itself on 25th October, and will also include a DVD video. The CD and DVD bundle will also come with a price tag worth 1,500 yen + tax.

Veteran singer, Isao Sasaki, who has worked in the OP song for Space Battleship Yamato, also released a comment, saying “It is a great pleasure to be able to participate in this magnificent work”. Meanwhile, fellow Anisong veteran, Ichirou Mizuki, said that he felt his life is in Anisong. Mizuki made a name for himself with the theme songs for Mazinger Z, as well as Captain Harlock.

The song aims to “further convey Japanese anime and Anisong culture to the world. And what better way to celebrate 100 years of Japanese animation than an all-star performance, right?
