Gegege no Kitaro is one of the most influential manga and anime franchises in history. And as it celebrates its 50th anniversary, Toei Animation has revealed a brand new PV for the new 2018 anime. But what makes this new PV so special is that it takes a look at the TV anime’s long 50-year history. From the black and white 60’s classic, all the way to the modern era, the new PV previews this truly historic franchise.

As the 8-minute video shows, here is the history of Gegege no Kitaro:

  • first season (1968-1969)
  • second season (1971-1972)
  • third season (1985-1988)
  • fourth season (1996-1998)
  • fifth season (2007-2009)
  • sixth season (2018-)

And aside from the history lesson video, Toei Animation also started streaming a brand new CM. Miyuki Sawashiro, Kitaro’s new seiyuu, also narrates this new teaser video:

Miyuki Sawashiro will be the new Kitarou, which also means that she’s taking over the legendary Masako Nozawa for the role. However, the legendary seiyuu will also be joining the new anime’s cast, but not as Kitarou. This is because she’s voicing Medama Oyaji. What’s Gegege no Kitarou without Masako Nozawa, right?

Kouji Ogawa is directing the series over at Toei Animation, while Hiroshi Ohnogi does the series composition. Meanwhile, Sorato Shimizu is serving as both the character designer and chief animation director. The anime will premiere on 1st April 2018 via Fuji TV, replacing Dragon Ball Super.
