Every 22nd April, the world goes the extra distance to protect mother Earth for Earth Day. Some turn off their lights for an hour, while others do clean-up drives in beaches and parks. As for Niantic, they’re trying to make Pokemon GO players clean up as well.

For this event, they are teaming up with Mission Blue, an organization dedicated to protecting the oceans. Here is what they have to say:

At Niantic we believe in taking care of the planet and we invite everyone to help us make the world a cleaner place on Earth Day through our collaboration with Mission Blue and multiple NGO partners. Together we can make a real and tangible impact on our world and support the important work of others to protect our oceans for future generations.

If enough Trainers globally attend and partake in the cleanup efforts, they will unlock the following rewards worldwide:

  • 1,500 attendees: 2× catch Stardust for Grass-, Water-, and Ground-type Pokémon for 48 hours
  • 3,000 attendees: 3× catch Stardust for Grass-, Water-, and Ground-type Pokémon for 48 hours

Niantic also announced that they will be holding 37 events across 12 different countries. This includes Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. They will also announce more locations soon.
