Every year, Kodansha conducts their annual Kodansha Manga Awards. And while they’re the ones conducting them, they actually open up their awards to manga from other companies as well. And now, they have revealed the results for the awards’ 42nd edition. The winners for this year are:

Best Shonen Manga
Beastars by Paru Itagaki (Akita Shouten)

Best Shoujo Manga
Toumei na Yurikago by Bakka Okita (Kodansha)

Best General Manga
Sanju Mariko by Yuki Ozawa (Kodansha)

Fragile – Byourii Kishi Keiichirou no Shoken by Writer: Saburou Megumi, Artist: Bin Kusamizu (Kodansha)

To win the Best Shonen Manga award, Beastars bested The Heroic Legend of Arslan, In/Spectre, and Cells at Work. Meanwhile, the other Best Shoujo Manga nominees include Lovesick Ellie, Kore wa Kitto Koi Janai, and Suteki na Kareshi. Finally, the two winners for Best General Manga beat out Tongari Boushi no Atelier and Hare Kon.

A committee of popular mangaka selected the nominees for the various awards. They include Ken Akamatsu, Tochi Ueyama, Oh! great, Atsushi Kase, Miyuki Kobayashi, Yūji Moritaka, and Waki Yamato. As for the winners, they will get a certificate, bronze statuette, and 1 million yen.
