Aside from Kumamon himself (and apples), one of Kumamoto Prefecture’s most enduring symbols would always be Kumamoto Castle. The castle itself has endured plenty of battles, sieges, and of course, earthquakes, the most recent being that big one back in 2016. It had suffered extensive damage, and construction to restore it might take decades. Construction is ongoing right now, and a few Japanese netizens have noticed something. According to many, while being restored, the castle looks like a giant robot.

According to netizens, Kumamoto Castle looks like a transformer. Many even joked that they’re not sure whether it’s a Decepticon or an Autobot. Others also pointed out that the castle looks like it might transform into one of those old school Sentai robots from the 80’s and 90’s. In particular, others pointed out that it looks like the Muteki Shogun from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger which takes inspiration from Japanese castles.

However, others pointed out that it might not be a transforming giant robot. Instead, they referenced the 1988 science fiction film, Mirai Ninja.

Well, that just shows that people have a ton of imagination. But seriously though, we’d never know if the people restoring it are secretly turning the castle into a real-life giant robot. This is Japan after all…
