Shogakukan’s DIME magazine recently held their annual DIME trend Awards. They announced the winners, and these include the “Best Character” Award. The winner hails from Detective Conan, but surprisingly, Conan didn’t win the award. But who else could have won it? Well, it was Tohru Amuro!

Tohru Furuya, who voices Tohru Amuro, attended the awarding ceremony with mascots of his character and Conan Edogawa.

But why did they choose Tohru Amuro over all the other characters? This is because according to DIME, he embodies the word “trending”. In fact, every singe issue of their magazine which features the character have all sold out. They also ttok into consideration the fact that the Zero Enforcer film, which has Amuro as the star, earned over 9 billion yen (US$79.2 million) at the box office. Surprisingly, this marks the first time that a manga character has ever won the “Best Character” award.

This year also saw other winners for various other categories. These include the idol group Keyakizaka46, the Zozo Suit, QR code payment, AirPods wireless headphones, the TikTok app and many more.
