Via Nikkei Asia: streaming giant Netflix is launching a new mentorship programme for aspiring animators with WIT Studio — best known for their work on the first three seasons of the TV anime adaptation of “Attack on Titan”, as well as their original TV anime “Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress” and “Great Pretender”.

“WIT Animator Academy” will open in Tokyo on April 2021, taking on ten successful applicants and training them for six months on highly-sought after animation skills — such as in-betweening. Netflix will pay the tuition of JPY 600,000 yen and a monthly living stipend of JPY 150,000 per student.

Applicants must be high school graduates between the ages of 18 and 25 currently residing in Japan. Upon successful completion of the academy programme, graduates will move on to become in-betweeners at WIT Studio or its sister studio Production I.G.
