After months of waiting, Hayao Miyazaki’s long-awaited return anime, Boro the Caterpillar, will debut this year. Now, the Ghibli Museum has revealed more details about the release through their official website. According to their announcement, the CGI anime short will debut on 21st March. They also revealed a new visual featuring Boro itself.

The anime will also be Miyazaki’s first work in five years. This will be his return anime since getting an Oscar nomination for The Wind Rises.

Previously, Ghibli producer, Toshio Suzuki, promised that the film will premiere July 2017. However, it seems that did not push through, and the studio pushed it to next year. As previously announced, the short film will debut in the Ghibli Museum as an exclusive anime short.

The 2016 NHK special, Owaranai Hito Miyazaki Hayao, previously took a look at Miyazaki as he worked on the anime. The program revealed that the Academy Award-winning director first struggled with shifting to 3D from the traditional animation style. However, Miyazaki managed to pull through, and learned a lot.

The program also revealed that Miyazaki was already planning to go out of retirement and do feature films again. Now, a year later, we know he’s also working on the Kimi-tachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?) feature film. The  Oscar winner also confirmed that he will be releasing it within 3-4 years.
