When the first trailer for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film dropped, fans all over the world did a collective groan. It’s safe to say that many found the design for Sonic himself to be either awful, creepy, or just plain bad.

It seems like the internet as a whole hated the design, and the backlash was so huge that Paramount had to reconsider and actually announce to change Sonic for the live-action film. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but THANKS INTERNET!

Another person thanking the internet is Yuji Naka. To those who don’t know who he is, he’s one of the people behind Sonic the Hedgehog, and he’s also a gaming industry legend. It turns out that Naka is also one of the people not fond of the movie’s design, though his voice wasn’t powerful enough to make the producers change Sonic’s design for the movie, even if he is Sonic’s creator. In a tweet replying to director Jeff Fowler’s announcement of the redesign, he thanked fans for making their voices heard.

He said that Sonic fans are amazing, and thanked them for loving his character. He also has hopes that the redesign would be good enough to make everyone happy.

So there you have it folks, from the man who created Sonic himself. Hopefully, Paramount makes good on their promise and actually improve the design.
