Kumamoto Prefecture brought us a lot of stuff, from One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda to of course, Kumamon. And now, it seems that the prefecture is also getting into animation production. In fact, its prefecturial government is producing a 12-episode TV anime titled Natsunagu!.

The Kumamoto government also has a very good reason to get into animation production. They’re actually intending to support the rebuilding and revival efforts of the prefecture for the April 2016 earthquakes. What’s more is that the anime will feature a completely native staff and cast, all of whom hail from Kumamoto.

The anime itself is a coming-of-age story. It follows a girl named Natsuna Keyaki who is a college student from Tokyo. She finds herself in Kumamoto to try and find a friend who she lost contact with after the 2016 earthquake.

Kumamoto native and Mr. Osomatsu episode director, Yasuyuki Honda, is directing the series, with Domeshisan penning the story. Finallu, Wake Up Girls!’ Yoshino Nanase will be starring in the anime as Izumi.
