Via LiveDoor: the popular game centre and karaoke joint in front of Akihabara station “Adores” is closing its doors for good on 31st October 2020. Although no specific reason has been given, it is safe to assume that falling footfall due to COVID-19 restrictions contributed to its demise.

Earlier this year, another Akihabara icon SEGA Building 2 closed down, likewise due to the lingering effects of COVID-19. A representative from the Akihabara Shopping District Promotion Association has stated that from a high of 5 million tourists flocking to Tokyo’s Otaku Mecca, it has dropped to almost zero, threatening the existence of shops and food outlets in the district.
