The lovable cardboard robot from Kiyohiko Azuma’s Yotsuba&! manga, Danboard, also known as Danbo, has proven to be a lot more popular and more well known than its own home manga. In fact, it has even getting its own anime before the main source manga itself! The anime is called Nyanbo!, and it follows Danboard’s cat version. The cast for the new anime have finally been announced, and they include:

Romi Park as Tora, Kotora’s serious and reliable older brother

nyanbo

Rie Kugimiya as Kotora, Tora’s innocent and inquisitive younger sister

nyanbo2

Yui Horie as Shiro, a stylish girl who likes Tora

nyanbo3

Yuko Sanpei as Kuro, a mysterious Nyanbo of few words

nyanbo4

The anime is scheduled to premiere on 27 September 2016, and will be aired via NHK-E TV. Nyanbo! will be a 5-minute animated short, which will be produced by Shirogumi Inc., who fans might now is the same studio behind Stand By Me, Doraemon, so expect some great 3D animation. It is expected to air at around 6:40 a.m. and at 5:20 p.m. every Tuesday starting October. The anime features Nyanbo as aliens who are looking for pieces of their crashed spaceship.

The Nyanboard figures featured several color variants, which included Tabby (bi-color), Pointed, Classic Danboard, Bi-Color (Gray), Black, Calico (Orange), Calico (Brown), Tabby (normal), White, and Bi-Color (Black), and as the new visual released by NHK suggests, we might see more than one Nyanboard in this anime.

Danboard was originally introduced in Kiyohiko Azuma’s popular comedy manga, Yotsuba&!, and has become the series’ own official cardboard robot mascot. However, it seems that Danboard will be getting its own anime even before the main series, Yotsube&!, has gotten one.
